{"id":235,"date":"2012-05-29T00:01:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-29T07:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/janusdialogs.com\/?p=235"},"modified":"2014-03-06T16:43:59","modified_gmt":"2014-03-07T00:43:59","slug":"the-means-justify-the-means-occupy-occupies-occupy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janusdialogs.com\/?p=235","title":{"rendered":"The Means Justify the Means | Occupy Occupies Occupy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than a tongue twister, it&#8217;s a brain twister as well.<\/p>\n<p>Back in November, members of Occupy Seattle opposed to the &#8220;power dynamics created by a speaker on stage&#8221; <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indecisionforever.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/14\/occupy-seattle-event-occupied-by-occupy-seattle\" target=\"_blank\">occupies and disrupted<\/a> an <strong><em>Occupy Seattle<\/em><\/strong> Town Hall. The Town Hall was designed to bring some direction and clarity to the movement. Instead, it was infected (or effected) by its own tactics.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, at a large conference, a flash mob appeared and performed in the registration hall. When asked after who it was for and what its message was, most present didn&#8217;t know. The video produced for YouTube was from so far away, and the sound so bad, the message was mostly lost.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.janusdialogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/wpid-Photo-May-26-2012-249-PM.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.janusdialogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/wpid-Photo-May-26-2012-249-PM.jpg?resize=310%2C174\" width=\"310\" height=\"174\" name=\"blogsy-1338069221094.2297\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Some see Occupy as an <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/most-innovative-companies\/2012\/occupy-movement\" target=\"_blank\">innovative company<\/a>, others see it as a <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/node\/21552179\" target=\"_blank\">loose group of individuals<\/a> with separate and at times competing purposes. When one of the underlying aspects of a community is to allow everyone to participate, it can be much easier at times to share <em>tactics<\/em> than <em>purpose<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But this is a dangerous course to take.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, everyone is different and may well have a different message, opinion, or take on the subject. But this <strong><em>increases<\/em><\/strong> the need for clarity of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janusdialogs.com\/2012\/04\/26\/tools-of-the-trade\/\" target=\"_blank\">objective and purpose<\/a> at an event or experience marketing program. Tactic should vary, objective shouldn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>The means should justify the ends.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: As always, the desire of Janus Dialogs is not to adjudicate the appropriateness of any trend, but to bring it to the forefront for consideration by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janusdialogs.com\/?p=53\" target=\"_blank\">caretakers<\/a> for the shared moments in time we call experience marketing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than a tongue twister, it&#8217;s a brain twister as well.
